Lamaze Breathing Techniques Class For Natural Childbirth

If you are women who actually enjoys childbirth then you are certainly in a very small minority.  Most women given the option would wish their baby could be delivered by courier.   However, this obviously isn’t going to happen and after nine months of carrying your baby and coping with fluctuating hormonal levels, reduced mobility and added weight you are much more likely to want your baby born right now.  Unless you are being scheduled to have a caesarean, then you will have to endure the stages of Labor before childbirth.

To make  Labor as easy as possible for you and your unborn baby proper deep breathing techniques should administered.  The most popular of which are the Lamaze breathing technique and the controlled Bradley exercise; but more on these later.

Lamaze Breathing TechniqueYou may feel apprehensive, even worried during the final stages of pregnancy, but remember women have been giving birth for centuries.  Although the basic process of childbirth has changed little over this time, medical knowledge has progressed significantly; so try not to worry you’re in safe hands.  That said, there is plenty you should be doing to make sure your Labor is as comfortable as possible through the use of pregnancy breathing techniques.

The Bradley technique was invented by Doctor Robert Bradley during the 1940’s.  This popular approach still practised today uses breathing exercises between contractions to help relax and focus before the onset of more intense contractions.  The deep breathing techniques practiced in the Bradley classes are considered helpful to women wishing to have a natural childbirth experience.

Another popular method is the Lamaze breathing technique.  This approach was developed by a physician in France during the 1960’s.  Just like the Bradley pregnancy breathing exercise it’s core ideology encompasses natural childbirth.  It replaces the use of pain control drugs during Labor in favor of cold and hot packs in an attempt to numb the senses of pain.  The method also involves positioning during childbirth and heavily uses deep breathing exercises during pregnancy to offer a viable natural childbirth alternative.

Lamaze ClassBoth of these pregnancy related breathing exercises are helpful especially during the active parts if Labor when your contractions will be at their strongest.  The accelerated intake of in-out-in breathing will help to oxygenate Just like Bradley, the Lamaze breathing technique , like Bradley, are helpful - more so during the more active parts of delivery. The rapid, in-out-in intake of air greatly helps fully oxygenate already stressed tissues and help to combat Labor pain. The key to both methods is to focus on breathing as well as diverting your efforts into correctly ‘pushing’ when advised too.  Both the Lamaze breathing technique and the Bradley breathing exercise help focus your mind that ultimately limits pain and helps you to focus on the end stages of your pregnancy.

Both the Bradley and Lamaze classes promote the importance of having a birth partner to aid you in delivery.  This is important as they will act as emotional support all throughout your Labor.  Taking a Lamaze class as an example you will learn to maintain a strong focus whilst being educated in posture positions ideally suited to aid childbirth.  A Lamaze class can also be a great way of meeting other women, all of whom will be sharing similar experiences.
